Hi again, Plurkers!
Now I'd like to continue my tutorial about theming Plurk. Previously, I've mentioned how to theme the body element. On this post, I will continue explaining how to theme the timeline holder. Again, this tutorial is intended for CSS beginners. If you think yourself as an expert, please don't bother read this post. You would get bored.
Timeline holder is where you can see the nice bars showing your plurks and your friends' plurks. Now to theme this, first of all, you should edit your profile, then click customize profile.
Previously, you would need Karma over 25 points to edit your theme. However, reading Plurk's latest blog post, now you can just change your theme right away, regardless what Karma point you currently have.
This post is a 101 of Plurk theming. I hope to give you CSS noobs a chance to modify your own theme. First, you should check Plurk styling help here. It was mentioned that Plurk's important page style are divided to 3 elements:
If you know CSS coding, I think you would be bored with my explanation here. However, most Plurkers don't understand what CSS is about. So, I try to explain as simple as I can, and hope that my tutorial here will give you noobs a bit of knowledge about CSS.
First of all, the body element. The body element covers in overall how your page will be displayed. You can choose how you want to display the background color, background image, font style, font color, font size, etc. Changing color would require you to type the hex color code. If you don't have an image editing software, you could check this online application from Febooti. Just select any color that you want, and you can see its hex color.
First of all, Plurktemplate.com is not associated with Plurk.com. I don't know them, and they don't know me either. I love Plurk, and probably wasting my precious time just by plurking and checking responses. I also enjoy designing web and practicing my CSS skills.
When Plurk announced that users can modify their own theme, I was excited. Then, for the next 24 hours, you could see some disasters happening on every profile (including mine). Everyone testing and trying to learn what style class can be modified, and to what extend. However, after few days you could see some excellent results. Most of us probably doesn't want Plurk to be next Myspace or Friendster or Multiply who had disastrous theming, since it was too flexible in customing. Anyhow, check the Flickr gallery pool to see some excellent showcase of those Plurk's themes.
Seeing this gallery pool made me wonder, why not try to share those designs to every other Plurkers? Especially to those who doesn't understand CSS design. That's what Plurktemplate.com is all about. To make others easy in obtaining those great themes. For designers, I guess it could be a chance to show off your skills.
Plurktemplate.com might not be perfect, but it's better than nothing, right? I'll improve more features on the way. Let me know if you have any suggestions about this site.
Plurktemplate.com was made using Drupal CMS with all those additional modules that Drupal communities has offered. Big thanks to them all.
